Self Defense Doctrine

In the State of San Andreas, you are permitted to protect yourself, or another person and/or property from unlawful force. The State of San Andreas also does not require you to attempt escape if you are justified in using force to defend yourself, even if it is deadly force. There are certain limitations to this doctrine and will be outlined as follows;

  1. When you can defend yourself

    1. You may defend yourself using force in a situation where you have not instigated or caused the situation to evolve.

    2. You may defend yourself from unlawful harm or a forcible felony using a proportionate amount of force.

    3. You may defend others or property from unlawful force or presence.

  2. How you can defend yourself

    1. You may defend yourself/others/property using a reasonable amount of force proportionate to the unlawful force

      1. You may not use unreasonable force when in self defense (i.e bringing a gun to fistfight, or starting a fistfight in response to verbal instigation).

    2. You may use deadly force if the following circumstances are true;

      1. You have reasonable belief that the attacker is going to cause serious bodily harm to yourself or another individual.

  3. When to stop defending yourself

    1. You must stop defending yourself as soon as the danger ends

    2. If your attacker stops attacking you and runs away, you must cease the use of force.
